Assessing the quality of life of orthognathic patients with self-estimate instrument: a systematic review

Abstract: The health-related quality of life is influenced by various factors, including individual health, mental state, independence degree, social relation and the circumstances of people's living. To date, the patient-oriented assessment regarding the quality of life consideration is becoming increasingly significant. People with dentofacial deformities do not only suffer from dysfunction of stomatognathic system, but also, facing with different degrees of social phobia and mental deficiency. Clinically, orthognathic surgery has greatly improved both patient's appearance and oral function. However, there still has been a lack of comprehensive assessment system of quality of life towards these patients. Many self-estimate instruments are developed and used for orthognathic patients, this systematic review summarized the quality of life of orthognathic patients with self-estimate instrument.
