Osteomyelitis of the mandible associated with malignant infantile osteopetrosis:a case report and literature review

Abstract: Osteopetrosis is a rare congenital genetic disease characterized by increased bone density due to impaired bone resorption by osteoclasts. The incidence of autosomal recessive osteopetrosis, also called malignant infantile osteopetrosis, is 1:300000. This article presented a typical case of osteomyelitis of the mandible associated with malignant infantile osteopetrosis, and reviewed the relevant literature on the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, radiological feature and treatment of osteopetrosis.
