Development of orthognathic surgery: an overview

Abstract: As the most common disease, dentomaxillofacial deformities refers to the abnormal shape and volume of jaws and even malocclusion or dysfunction of stomatognathic system caused by anomalous jaws or maxillofacial relationship. There is a long history of the development of orthognathic surgery to treat dentomaxillofacial deformities, along with great painstaking efforts from many scholars and investigators. This paper briefly reviewed the development history of orthognathic surgery, and introduced the milestone events and representative figures, in order to provide a reference for professional workers.
