Abstract: Summary Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) diseases, such as fractures, ankylosis, and tumor, often cause condylar damages. Recently, costochondral graft has been used to reconstruct TMJ, and become the excellent treatment for TMJ diseases. It was firstly reported by Gillies in 1920 s. Since then, most researchers have focused on the costochondral selection, postoperative costochondral growth, and minimally invasive surgical procedures. In this paper, we mainly discussed the functional reconstruction for TMJ from the previously stated perspectives.
