Retrospective study of 49 comminuted mandibular fractures

Abstract: PURPOSE: To summarize the treatment of comminuted mandibular fractures. METHODS: The records of 49 patients with comminuted mandibular fractures were analyzed for treatment and outcomes. RESULTS: Among 49 patients, 33 were male, 16 were female; 31% were traffic accident injury, 10 had postoperative infection, 1 had malocclusion, 1 had temporo-mandibular joint ankylosis, 1 had nonunion, the complication rate was 26.5%. CONCLUSIONS: There are several approaches to manage comminuted mandibular fracture, however, the infection rate was still high and the therapeutic effect is not good.
